I cannot connect to WhatsApp! on BlackBerry

If you...

  • Cannot receive or send messages.
  • See a clock next to sent messages.
  • Receive a "local connection timeout" error.
  • See "awaiting network".

Or if you seem to have other connection-related problems, there is probably an issue with your network connection.

If you are only receiving one check mark, there is nothing wrong with your phone's connection. Please read this article for more information.

First, please make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of WhatsApp from ourwebsite.

Then try these few steps to see if you can fix it:

  • Connect to 3G if you haven't already.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi if you haven't already.
  • Try turning off 3G or Wi-Fi to force connection to the other.
  • Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • From your homescreen go to Options > Networks and Connections > Mobile Network and make sure that you are connected to your mobile provider. If you are not, use Scan for Available Networks to try and connect to your mobile provider.
  • Make sure that you have granted WhatsApp the proper permissions in your phone's settings.
  • Reboot your phone.

For more information regarding connection please read this article.

If none of these steps work, you may be experiencing a temporary connection issue and should try connecting later.

If after a while you still can't connect, try contacting your mobile provider and BlackBerry to see if they can help you. Please note that WhatsApp recommends a full BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) data plan in order for WhatsApp to function properly.
