How do I turn off conversation tones (when I send and receive a message)?


Conversation tones are the sounds played when you send and receive a message. The latest version of WhatsApp for Android has conversation tones turned on by default. The volume of conversation tones is controlled by your notification volume.

To turn these tones on/off:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Go to Menu Button > Settings > Notifications > Conversation Sounds.
  3. Uncheck the box to turn the tones off. Check the box to turn the tones on.

Keep in mind that adjusting the Conversation tones setting will adjust both the incoming and outgoing message tones simultaneously.
